Bringing forward our joint business in the long term

Dear Readers,

As you know from the recent Force Majeure Declaration, a fire at BASF SE’s Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide and Oxogas production in Ludwigshafen as a consequence of a leakage has led to a disruption of the Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide and Oxogas supply. We would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to your company. Please be assured that we continue to use all reasonable efforts to mitigate the effects of this shortage.

Nevertheless, we would like to continue the dialog on innovations and new product developments, with the aim of bringing forward our joint business in the long term and advancing new solutions for the broad field of Coatings applications. What’s more, we remain as dedicated as ever to our R&D activities, and our innovation journey has been accelerating in recent months – you can find out more about our latest activities elsewhere in this newsletter.

If you have questions about any of the above, we very much welcome you getting in touch with us.

Again, we regret this situation and appreciate your patience.

All the best,

Frank Hezel

Speeding up innovation with digital material profiling

BASF’s new Digital Material Profiling Lab was unveiled in December. It incorporates two workstreams: a fully automated formulation, application, and testing procedure, and an integrated data ecosystem that provides BASF’s colleagues global access to testing data. Dr. Irene Gorman is part of a team that designed and implemented this ground-breaking lab. We spoke to her about what it means to have this facility up and running.

Sustainable 2K PU topcoats with no compromises

Historically, formulating a 2K polyurethane glossy topcoat has been viewed as a case of ‘You get what you pay for’. For product developers, it is not easy to balance out quality and cost – usually they are forced to make compromises. Now, customers can choose to shine with one solution offering everything they need.

Achieved: outstanding color strength and excellent flow characteristics!

Dispersants for inorganic pigments in aqueous wood coating formulations can have a wide range of characteristics, such as high pigment loads, transparency, low foaming or the ability to be used with a broader range of pigments.
