Newsletter Resins & Additives for Coatings

How to measure sustainability, the latest launches, trade show news

Dear reader,

Welcome to the latest edition of our Resins and Additives Newsletter.

The past months have been a challenge for our customers and indeed for us at BASF, resulting from developments such as trends arising from energy price hikes, short-term changes in market demand, the need to react to regulatory requirements and supply chain measures to cope with war and the impact of conflicts such as the Houthi attacks on the shipping route in the Red Sea. These have inevitably led to supply issues.

Many of you have been affected by BASF’s decision to terminate a number of product lines that were important for some of our industries, but no longer viable, especially in Europe. The discontinuation of certain upstream product lines had its impact on our portfolio, forcing us to drop a part of it, a measure that was unavoidable, but inconvenient for our customers and for us.

We are now happy to be back with more positive news. This newsletter provides an overview of methodologies used to assess sustainability throughout the value chain, introduces some of our newest products, and describes recent trade-fair highlights. Please contact any of the individual authors if you would like to discuss one or the other topic in further detail.

We look forward to hearing from you and being in touch!

Weather or not…

An airport transformed into a lake. Cars languishing neck-deep in water. The streets of a desert metropolis looking a lot like Venice. And in the middle of it all: Our EMEA Resins and Additives colleagues. It was time for the Middle East Coating Show – the biggest trade fair in the coatings industry in the Middle East and North Africa region. The show began on exactly the same day in April 2024 when the heaviest rainfall in 75 years hit Dubai.
